It will come as no surprise that veiling is centuries old. Our Lady, the perfect Jewish Mother always had her hair covered as was custom at the time. This showed purity and modesty. Through out the ages Jewish women will always cover their heads on entering the synagogue or at the Sabbath for the Friday night prayers. This is extremely poignant and special to me as it reminds me of my heritage, being fully Jewish, and then completing my Judaism by becoming a Catholic.
Lighting the Shabbat candles, the Mother will veil and then cover her eyes when she says the prayers over the lights.
Loving the Holy- veiling before the One God.
